Max Armstrong talks about food waste cost and impact.

Food waste could be costing the average American household almost $1,900 per year. The inefficiency in food economy has implications for health, food security, food marketing and climate change says one economist. Their research shows that 30-40% of the total food supply in the U.S. goes uneaten, which means production is wasted, as well.

Research from Penn State shows that the average American household wastes 20-50% of the food it buys.  Income and diet impact this number, too.

Farm Progress America is a daily look at key issues in agriculture. It is produced and presented by Max Armstrong, veteran farm broadcaster and host of This Week in Agribusiness.
