COMMUNICATION LEADER: Mary Peck is the new Colorado Department of Agriculture director of communications and public awareness.
In the new role, Peck will be responsible for coordinating communications on behalf of CDA to promote agency activities, consumer education and staff outreach. Peck will work with the governor’s office, department senior management, state and federal partners, industry organizations, staff, the media and the public.
In the announcement, Greenburg commented that Peck brings a “wealth of ideas, energy and experience to the position. Her personal agricultural roots and devotion to rural communities will help drive her work here at CDA.”
Plenty of background, experience
Peck has more than two decades of communications and media expertise to the position, including work in agriculture and rural communities. She has worked with rural electric cooperative staff across Colorado, Nebraska, New Mexico and Wyoming as communications coordinator for Tri-State G&T Cooperative. Most recently, she was a writer for Colorado Country Life Magazine and a consultant to the Colorado 4-H Foundation.
Raised on a farm and large cattle operation in southeast Wyoming, Peck attended Colorado State University in Fort Collins, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in communications. Her professional work has taken her across the state, giving her insight into the diverse communities of Colorado.
Peck commented in the release announcing her new position that she is “thrilled about the confluence within this opportunity to combine my passion for, and background in, rural communities and agriculture with my extensive media and community relations experience.”
The mission of CDA is to strengthen and advance Colorado agriculture; promote a safe and high-quality food supply; protect consumers; and foster responsible stewardship of the environment and natural resources.
